- Body - Fuchsia, (magenta) bright orange, purple or pink bunny strips
- Hackle - Soft purple, orange, or hot pink rooster steelhead streamer necks or schlappen
- Head - Orange tying thread finished with bright orange lacquer (nail polish)
TYING INSTRUCTION
- Insert a hook into the vise, secure the tying thread to the hook and build a thread base from the rear of normal head space to hook's bend.
- Weight - wrap a .030" size lead wire onto the hook's shank leaving enough room at the rear of the lead wire wraps to tie in the Flashabou or Krystal Flash and the bunny strips.
- Tail - Secure the Krystal Flash then the bunny strip tail with tying thread at hook's bend. The tail equals 1½ the hook's shank length.
- Body - Trim a little fur from the tip of the second bunny strip and secure with tying thread at the tail tie in. Wrap both rabbit strips forward simultaneously and stroke the fur to the rear of the hook as the bunny strips wrap to avoid catching the fur under the strips. Keep a steady, even tension on both strips as they wrap forward. Secure the bunny strips with tying thread, trim the excess, and build a neat tying thread base for the hackle.
- Head - Build a neat tying thread head, whip finish, and coat with bright orange lacquer.
NOTES
The development of blending two bunny strip colors achieved the design of a more durable Popsicle style Coho Salmon fly. This is a simple evolution of the bunny fly. The bunny strips provide plenty of motion in the water and some weight in the wetted fly.
The most effective colors for Coho are:
- Orange tail blended with a fuscia body and purple hackle
- Fuscia tail blended with a purple body and hot pink hackle
The Blended Bunny fishes very well for fall coho in S. E. Alaska tied on size 2 Tiemco #7999 hooks.
