MATERIALS LIST
- Hook - Daiichi 1100, 1110, 1170, 1180, 1190. Mustad 94840, 80000BR. Orvis 4864, 4641,1176, 1523, 1877. Tiemco 100, 101, 5210. Size 14 - 20.
- Thread - Beige 6/0
- Tail - Brown or Amber antron yarn fibers.
- Body/Thorax - Brown antron or zelon yarn.
- Wing Case - Antron yarn.
- Hackle - Rooster neck or saddle.
TYING INSTRUCTION
- Insert the hook in the vise and build a good thread base.
- Wing Pad/Hackle Post - Tie in a full strand of Antron yarn ("Lureflash Anrtron Body Wool" works well) one third of the hook's shank length behind hook's eye tag end to the hook's rear and trim the excess close. Loop the yarn forward and secure with tying thread so the lower portion of the yarn loop is touching and trim the excess antron close. Wrap the wing pad loop with tying thread in a counter clockwise direction enough to insure the stiffness and space needed to wrap a 5-6 turn parachute hackle. The wing post wrapping process usually takes about 50 thread wraps.
- Tail - Tie in 4 or 5 brown or amber zelon fibers at the hook's bend and trim to one half body length.
- Abdomen - Seperate about 40 fibers of zelon from a full strand of zelon yarn and secure with tying thread at the tail tie in point. Trim the excess fibers close. Twist the zelon tightly in a counter clockwise direction and wrap forward to the rear of the wing post, secure with tying thread and trim the excess close. The twisted yarn fibers create a nicely segmented body.
- Thorax - Form a dubbing noodle on the tying thread sufficient to cover the thorax area around, under, and in front of the wing pad loop/hackle post.
- Hackle - Tie in the hackle at the front of the hackle post concave side down tip to the rear. Wrap a 5-6 turn parachute hackle, secure with tying thread and trim the excess.
- Head - Build a tapered tying thread head, whip finish and cement if you like.
NOTES
The Paramerger is an emerging mayfly simulation that provides the floatation needed for heavy water fishing as well as being effective for the most demanding fish in the most demanding conditions and has been tested in Box Canyon (Henry's Fork) and Silver Creek. Variation of hook size as well as amount and color of tying material will adapt the Paramerger for use as any mayfly species.
