THE S&N TUTONE

MATERIALS LIST

  1. Hook -Daiichi 1750, 1720. Mustad 9672, Tiemco 300, Tiemco 5263, 200R. Size2 -8.

  2. Thread - Brown or black 6/0 Uni-Thread

  3. Tail - Black, brown or white round medium rubber legs.

  4. Weight - .030" Lead Wire.

  5. Ribs - Fine oval gold tinsel or fine gold wire.

  6. Abdomen - Brown or black Red Heart Dazzelaire Yarn. Also Aunt Lydia's Heavy Rug Yarn.

  7. Thorax - Beige or tan Red Heart Dazzelaire Yarn.

  8. Wing Case - A 5\16" wide turkey wing feather strip(Oak or Bleached) coated with Flexament.

  9. Legs - Dark brown webby saddle hackle.

  10. Antennae - Black, brown or white round medium rubber legs.

TYING INSTRUCTION

  1. Insert a hook in the vise and build good tread base.

  2. Tail - Cut two strands of rubber legs long enough to reach from 3/4" beyond the hooks eye to 1/2" beyond the hooks bend. Attach the strands of rubber legs immediately behind the hook's eye and continue wrapping with tying thread to the hook's bend.

  3. Weight - 21 to 23 wraps of .030 lead wire for fast water and adjust for other fishing situations. Secure the lead wire with many wraps of tying thread.

  4. Rib - Tie in the fine oval gold tinsel/wire at the hook's bend.

  5. Abdomen - Tie in the yarn at the hook's bend and wind a closely wrapped abdomen approximately 2/3 hook's shank length and secure with tying thread. Trim the excess.

  6. Ribs - Spiral 5 or 6 turns of oval gold tinsel through the abdomen and secure with tying thread at the front of the abdomen. Trim the excess.

  7. Wing Case - Tie in the coated turkey wing feather strip by the butt (large) ends shiney side down with the feather tips extending to the rear of the fly.

  8. Legs - Strip the fluff from the base of a dark brown webby saddle hackle and attach the concave side down at the front of the abdomen.

  9. Thorax - Immediately behind the abdomen tie in the beige colored yarn and wrap to the back of the head space. Secure with tying thread. Palmer the leg hackle 3 turns to the front of the thorax, secure with tying thread at back of head space and trim the excess hackle. Trim the leg hackle fibers from the fly's top.

  10. Wing Case - Pull the coated turkey wing feather strip over the thorax to the rear of the head space and secure with tying thread. Trim the excess close.

  11. Head - Build a tapered head, whip finish and cement.
